Leo E. Koch, 93, owner of Cavendish Store
Leo E. Koch, the former owner of the Cavendish Store, died of congestive heart failure Saturday at Tri-State Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clarkston. He was 93.
He was born June 28, 1905, to Nickolas and Elizabeth Brutger Koch in Hubbard County near Park Rapids, Minn. He attended school at Arago, Minn.
He married Vella O. Lansing June 8, 1944, at Kelso, Wash.
He worked for Weyerhaeuser at Longview until 1947. In 1947 they moved to the Ahsahka area and he worked in the woods with local loggers. He also worked at the Ahsahka Mill until retiring at the age of 68.
He and his wife owned and operated the Cavendish Store. After her death July 12, 1978, he continued to run the store until 1989. In 1990 he moved to Lenore to be near his daughter. He came to Lewiston in 1996 and lived at Wedgwood Terrace before moving to Tri-State Healthe and Rehabilitation Center in Clarkston.
Survivors include two daughters, Lecile E. Kiffer of Ketchikan, Alaska and Irene J. Gill of Lenore; two sons, Willis F. Patterson of Divide Colo. and Charles J. Patterson of Winchester; and seven grandchildren.
Private burial is planned at Cavendish Cemetery. Cremation was under the direction of Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston.
